Instructions
Six things change the number — and all of them are in your control.
Per-sqft varies by product (Lush 70, Lucky 77, Lush 80, Lush Primo). Putting green is its own product and is priced separately.
Per-sqft pricing differs slightly between AZ and UT, and sales tax differs (Mesa 8.3%, Utah 7.45%). The calculator handles it.
12 ft (Lush 70) or 15 ft rolls. Your project width vs. roll width drives how much extra turf you buy after seams.
Natural Blend silica sand for landscape, PetFill Pro for pet areas. Different bag prices, different lbs/sqft per product.
Smooth or SpiralPro, in 30-lb buckets. Coverage rule: about 1 bucket per 850 sqft. Putting greens use headless boxes.
Bulk orders qualify for trade pricing. The calculator shows retail; wholesale is lower for the right volume.
Most homeowners ask this first: how much does artificial turf cost per square foot? For the turf alone, plan on roughly $1.19–$1.89 per square foot in Arizona and $1.39–$1.99 per square foot in Utah, before infill, nails, and tax. Value-conscious products sit at the low end of each band; our densest premium product sits at the high end.
For all-in materials — turf plus infill, nails, and sales tax — a typical 1,000 sq ft residential project lands at roughly $1.58–$3.14 per square foot in Arizona and $1.84–$3.37 per square foot in Utah. The low end is Lush 70 with Natural Blend infill; the high end is Lush Primo with PetFill Pro.
Two caveats worth naming up front. First, every number on this page is materials only — installation labor, base aggregate, edging, and delivery are quoted separately by your contractor and are never included in our estimates (see Total Installed Cost vs. Materials-Only below for industry context). Second, "per square foot" is a planning figure: turf ships in fixed-width rolls (12 ft for Lush 70; 15 ft for Lush 80, Lucky 77, Lush Primo, and putting green), so the purchased square footage for a given installed area is usually a few percent higher than the installed area. The cost-by-project-size table below uses the typical purchased totals from a real layout.
Materials-only reference ranges by project size, basic kit (Lush 70 + Natural Blend + smooth nails) to premium kit (Lush Primo + PetFill Pro + SpiralPro), tax included. Run your exact project in the calculator above for layout-specific numbers.
| Project size | Arizona (Mesa yard) | Utah (Provo yard) |
|---|---|---|
| 100 sq ft | $210 – $370 | $248 – $402 |
| 200 sq ft | $355 – $670 | $416 – $723 |
| 300 sq ft | $500 – $970 | $583 – $1,044 |
| 500 sq ft | $791 – $1,570 | $919 – $1,687 |
| 750 sq ft | $1,153 – $2,320 | $1,338 – $2,490 |
| 1,000 sq ft | $1,581 – $3,141 | $1,837 – $3,374 |
| 1,500 sq ft | $2,307 – $4,641 | $2,676 – $4,980 |
| 2,000 sq ft | $3,097 – $6,211 | $3,594 – $6,667 |
| 2,500 sq ft | $3,823 – $7,711 | $4,432 – $8,274 |
| 5,000 sq ft | $7,646 – $15,422 | $8,865 – $16,547 |
Each row is a basic-kit-to-premium-kit range — value turf with Natural Blend infill and smooth nails on the low end, our densest Lush Primo with PetFill Pro infill and SpiralPro nails on the high end — with Mesa (AZ, 8.3% tax) or Utah (7.45% tax) sales tax included. Same project, different products: a 1,000 sq ft Arizona project shifts by roughly $1,560 between the basic and premium kit.
Pick a row close to your project size to set a planning budget, then run your exact dimensions in the calculator above for layout-accurate numbers — the calculator factors roll-width waste, seam direction, and per-product infill rates, which a static table can't.
Reference ranges assume installed area = purchased area; actual purchase may be slightly higher due to roll width and grain. Materials only — excludes labor, base material, delivery, and edging.
Cost depends as much on what the turf is for as on how much you buy. These materials-only ranges anchor a typical project size per type; your layout may differ.
Typical 1,000 sq ft. AZ materials-only: $1,581–$3,141.
Most homeowners pick a mid-tier product (Lush 80 or Lucky 77) with Natural Blend infill, then upgrade to PetFill Pro if pets live on it.
Residential turfTypical 400 sq ft. AZ materials-only: $645–$1,270.
Front yards reward our densest turf (Lush Primo) where curb appeal matters; a value product like Lush 70 still works for HOA-tidy budgets.
Typical 400 sq ft (Lush 80). AZ: $846 (Natural Blend) → $1,056 (PetFill Pro).
Drainage and infill drive cost, not the turf. Most pet owners pick PetFill Pro for odor control.
Pet turfTypical 50–500 sq ft. AZ materials-only: $146–$1,597.
Specialty product with heavier infill and headless nails. See the dedicated putting green section below.
Putting green turfTypical 100 sq ft. AZ materials-only: $210–$370.
Most balconies skip infill (weight, drainage) and use clip-down or perimeter glue instead of nails — call our team to scope it.
Balcony turfTypical 2,000+ sq ft. AZ materials-only: starts at $3,097 and scales linearly.
Bulk projects qualify for wholesale supply and contractor accounts — pricing differs from retail.
Wholesale turfA backyard putting green uses a different turf product than a landscape lawn — shorter, denser pile with no grain direction so balls roll true — plus a heavier infill rate (typically 2 lb/sq ft of silica sand) for ball roll consistency, and specialty headless nails (5-lb boxes) instead of the 30-lb buckets used on landscape installs. Putting green turf ships in 15-ft-wide rolls at the same per-sqft price point in both Arizona and Utah.
To estimate your specific green in the calculator above, select "Putting Green (15 ft rolls)" in the Turf Type dropdown, enter your green dimensions, and pick your region — the calculator handles the heavier infill rate and headless-nail count automatically.
| Green size | Arizona (Mesa yard) | Utah (Provo yard) |
|---|---|---|
| 50 sq ft | $146 – $177 | $147 – $182 |
| 100 sq ft | $270 – $332 | $272 – $343 |
| 150 sq ft | $394 – $488 | $397 – $503 |
| 200 sq ft | $518 – $643 | $522 – $664 |
| 300 sq ft | $787 – $976 | $794 – $1,007 |
| 500 sq ft | $1,283 – $1,597 | $1,295 – $1,649 |
| 750 sq ft | $1,925 – $2,396 | $1,942 – $2,474 |
Putting green ranges assume turf + Natural Blend infill (basic) → turf + PetFill Pro infill (premium), plus headless putting-green nails ($20/5-lb box) and regional sales tax. Materials only — excludes base (typically 3–4" compacted decomposed granite or fines), fringe turf, contours, hole cups, labor, and delivery. Most backyard greens add 10–20% to the planning budget for fringe and contour. Use the sub-base calculator for base material volume.
The calculator shows a transparent kit total. Here's exactly what is — and isn't — counted.
Included
Turf
Per-sqft price by product (Lush 70 / Lucky 77 / Lush 80 / Lush Primo / Putting Green) × the sqft you actually buy after waste.
Infill
Natural Blend (silica sand) bags, or PetFill Pro for pet areas — 50-lb bags, count driven by the turf product’s recommended lbs/sqft.
Nails
Smooth or SpiralPro nails — 30-lb buckets, ~1 bucket per 850 sqft of turf (3.5" nails).
Sales tax
Mesa, AZ tax (8.3%) or Utah tax (7.45%) applied to your subtotal automatically.
Not included
Labor
Installation, base prep, demolition, edging — quoted separately by your contractor. Never in our estimates.
Base material
Crushed aggregate sub-base. Use our sub-base calculator for tonnage.
Delivery
Pickup at our Mesa or Provo yard is free; delivery is mileage-based and quoted on request.
Edging
Bender board / mow strip / concrete edging — quoted by your contractor.
Pricing differs by region because we run two real yards — Mesa, AZ and Provo, UT — with regional supplier pricing on turf, infill, and nails, plus different sales-tax rates. The calculator above handles the regional swap automatically; this section explains what's behind the numbers.
Our Arizona yard is in Mesa, with Mesa city sales tax of 8.3% applied to every order. We deliver across the Valley — Mesa, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Peoria, Glendale, Surprise, Buckeye — and offer same-day will-call pickup on standard stock. Per-sqft turf pricing in Arizona runs from value tier (around $1.19) up to our densest premium tier (around $1.89).
Artificial turf in ArizonaOur Utah yard is in Provo, with state sales tax of 7.45%. We deliver along the Wasatch Front — Provo, Orem, Draper, Sandy, Murray, Salt Lake City — and offer same-day pickup at the Provo yard. Per-sqft turf in Utah runs slightly higher than Arizona for the same products: value tier around $1.39, premium tier around $1.99.
Artificial turf in UtahBoth states' water districts have offered rebates for converting natural lawns to artificial turf or low-water landscaping. AZ: check SRP, APS, and your municipal water provider. UT: Salt Lake County and Jordan Valley Water Conservancy have introduced tiered pricing and lawn-area restrictions; turf removal often qualifies. Rebate programs change — a quick call to your utility usually confirms what's available.
Pickup at either yard is free on standard stock. Delivery is mileage-based and quoted on request — roughly $2.75 per mile for full rolls and $3.00 per mile for cut pieces. East Valley AZ pickups, Utah County UT pickups, and projects within ~25 miles of either yard usually skip delivery entirely. For pallet orders, call ahead so we can stage your material.
Landscapers, builders, and resellers in both states get contractor pricing on turf rolls and accessories with consistent stock at our Mesa and Provo yards. Roll and pallet pricing, dedicated will-call, and standing accounts for ongoing work. The calculator's retail ranges don't reflect contractor accounts.
Sales tax is calculated automatically in the calculator (8.3% Mesa, 7.45% Utah). Tax is the largest non-product line item in most estimates. Delivery, base material, edging, and labor are not in the materials estimate — see Installed Cost vs. Materials-Only below for industry context.
Heads-up
Labor is never in any estimate on this page. The calculator, the cost-by-project-size table, the project-type cards, and the putting green table are all materials only. The installed-cost figures below are industry context — what a contractor's turnkey quote typically adds on top of our materials number — not a Turf Yard quote. We supply materials; your contractor quotes the install.
Materials only:
Typical range: roughly $1.58–$3.14 per sq ft in AZ, $1.84–$3.37 per sq ft in UT.
Quoted separately by your installer — not by us:
Typical all-in installed range: ~$6–$11 per sq ft for a typical AZ/UT residential lawn — your contractor's quote may differ.
For the aggregate base under your turf (volume and depth), use the sub-base calculator. For an installed-price quote against the materials number this calculator gives you, contact us and we'll point you to a contractor who works your area.
Your material cost is one-time. Natural grass keeps charging year after year. A typical 15-year comparison of ongoing costs:
| Ongoing cost | Natural grass (15 yrs) | Artificial turf (15 yrs) |
|---|---|---|
| Water (avg ~$600/yr) | $9,000 | $0 |
| Mowing (avg ~$1,200/yr) | $18,000 | $0 |
| Fertilizer / chemicals (~$300/yr) | $4,500 | $0 |
| Repairs / overseeding | $2,000 | ~$500 |
| 15-year ongoing total | $33,500 | ~$500 |
Estimates based on typical AZ/UT residential lawn irrigation (~50,000 gal/year at ~$0.012/gallon) and ~32 cuts/year at ~$35/cut or equivalent DIY time. Water districts in AZ and UT often offer rebates for turf conversions — check with your local utility.

Enter your project width and length in feet, pick a turf type (which sets the roll width to 12 or 15 feet), choose a grain direction, and select Arizona or Utah. Results update instantly — turf to purchase, waste, seams, infill bags per product, and a materials-only cost range.
Start with your area (length × width). Because turf comes in fixed-width rolls (12 ft for Lush 70; 15 ft for Lucky 77, Lush 80, Lush Primo, and putting green), what you actually buy is usually a bit more than the area you cover. The calculator works this out and shows the turf-to-purchase figure for each layout option.
Material cost depends on the turf product, region (AZ or UT), how much you buy after waste, infill type, and nails. The calculator shows a materials-only range per layout: basic kit (Natural Blend infill + smooth nails) to premium kit (PetFill Pro infill + SpiralPro nails). Labor, base prep, and delivery are not included.
For 300 sq ft, materials-only cost runs roughly $500 – $970 in Arizona (Mesa tax) and $583 – $1,044 in Utah for a basic-to-premium kit (turf + infill + nails + sales tax). Run the calculator for your exact dimensions to factor in roll-width waste and seam direction. Labor is not included.
For 500 sq ft, materials-only cost runs roughly $791 – $1,570 in Arizona and $919 – $1,687 in Utah. The low end is Lush 70 + Natural Blend infill; the high end is Lush Primo + PetFill Pro. Labor and base material are quoted separately by your contractor.
For 1,000 sq ft, materials-only cost runs roughly $1,581 – $3,141 in Arizona and $1,837 – $3,374 in Utah for a basic-to-premium kit including sales tax. See the cost-by-project-size table above for other project sizes, and run the calculator for your specific layout.
For 2,000 sq ft, materials-only cost runs roughly $3,097 – $6,211 in Arizona and $3,594 – $6,667 in Utah. Larger projects benefit from contractor pricing — ask about wholesale rolls for jobs of this size.
Industry context (NOT included in this calculator): a turnkey contractor install in Arizona or Utah typically runs roughly $6–$11 per sq ft all-in for a residential lawn, with materials at $1.60–$3.40 per sq ft, base aggregate around $1.00–$1.80 per sq ft, and labor + edging the balance. Our calculator outputs the materials portion only — labor is never in our estimates. Get an exact installed price from your contractor.
Upfront, yes — Natural Blend infill is roughly a third the per-bag price of PetFill Pro, so a 400 sq ft pet yard with Lush 80 lands at about $846 in Arizona with Natural Blend versus $1,056 with PetFill Pro. The trade-off is odor control — most pet owners pick PetFill Pro for backyard use. Both options include the same turf, nails, and sales tax.
The calculator already accounts for roll-width waste based on your dimensions and the chosen roll width (12 ft or 15 ft). As a planning rule of thumb, expect 5–15% extra material on a typical layout — the exact figure depends on whether your project width is a near-multiple of 12 or 15 ft. The calculator shows the exact "turf to purchase" number per layout option.
Artificial turf has a higher upfront material cost than seeding a lawn, but it eliminates ongoing water, mowing, and fertilizer expenses. In AZ and UT, water and maintenance savings alone can offset the upfront investment over several years.
Labor (installation), base materials (crushed aggregate sub-base), delivery, and edging (bender board, concrete mow strips). These are quoted separately. The calculator covers turf, infill, nails, and your local sales tax.
It depends on the product, typically 1 to 2 pounds per square foot, in 50-lb bags: 1 lb/sq ft for Lush 70, 1.6 lb/sq ft for Lush 80 and Lucky 77, and 2 lb/sq ft for Lush Primo and putting green. The calculator outputs a bag count per turf product based on how much turf you purchase.
About turf infillNo — this tool covers turf, infill, nails, and tax. For the aggregate base under your turf (depth and tonnage), use the sub-base turf calculator. A well-compacted, well-draining base is what makes a turf lawn last.
Sub-Base Turf CalculatorYes — we supply contractors and resellers across Arizona and Utah with trade pricing on turf rolls and accessories. Contact us for current contractor pricing.
Request contractor pricingYes. The calculator handles infill and nail counts for both. For pet areas, swap to PetFill Pro infill (the premium kit estimate already includes it). Putting greens use specialty headless nails — see the dedicated putting green section above, and select "Putting Green (15 ft rolls)" in the calculator.
